Just before noon you shot two men, stole the briefcase of cash they were carrying, and fled the state in a Rambler hot-wired from the parking lot of a home for the aged.
Now it is 9 pm and you are in an anonymous hotel in an unfamiliar city a few nights before Christmas.
You have a 102-degree fever and are firmly convinced that the people to whom the cash belongs are two minutes away from breaking down your door with guns.
Your room is next to the lounge, and through your wash of sickness, paranoia, and adrenaline, you can hear the band entertaining a room half-full of accountants and traveling salesmen.
